This ministry was named the Health & Wellness Ministry with a specific purpose in mind, and it does beg the question, what is the difference between health and wellness? One would think they are the same at first glance, but really, they are two very different things.
Health is what we think of as the absence of the symptoms of disease or illness. Although hidden disease may be present in our bodies, we mistakenly consider ourselves healthy because we are not in pain; we can get around, we aren’t in the hospital and we are not on prescription medication. True health; however, is when the body organs and systems are functioning properly 100%of the time and our immune systems are effectively fighting off disease.
Illness tends to be obvious, but an unhealthy body sometimes is not so obvious. Some of the less noticeable, or rather less acknowledged, symptoms of an unhealthy body are bloating, a white coating on the tongue, cravings for sugary or salty foods, lack of energy, PMS (yes sisters, PMS is not normal in a healthy body), body stiffness, acid reflux and recurring infections. If you can relate to any of these symptoms, your blood has become acidic and these symptoms are the result of a lack of alkaline balance in the body. Consider Leviticus 17:11, “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.” If you mess with the blood of a creature, you mess with its life. An acidic blood environment makes an unhealthy body.
Wellness on the other hand is going beyond health and exploring the potential God has given us through our bodies. Have you ever thought about what your health might be like 5, 10, 15 years from now? Will it be better than it is now? Did you know that it can be better than it is now? Are you subject to the misconception that illness comes with age? Wellness is about taking your healthy body and mind to higher levels of consciousness through nutrition and fitness. As disciples, we are called to then use that consciousness and energy to do the work of the Lord. We sincerely hope you choose a path to reach your God-given potential through your body which is temple of the Holy Spirit. Corinthians 6:19-20.
