I've been attending the Crown Financial class series for the last couple of weeks. One of the most emphasized points in the class is that "God owns everything, I own nothing." Then I read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
Not even my body is my own!! I've internalized a few truths from the scripture. My body is a prescious, expensive resource; it is meant to be used for honoring God. When I give into indulgences of food or overeating, it is dishonoring to God.
When I mistreat my body by feeding it junk food, giving it little sleep, giving it little water and not nourishing it, it's like I'm saying to God, "Yes, I know you've loaned me this body, but it isn't good enough or valuable enough to take care of it, and the price that Jesus paid for it really isn't all that important, I'd rather indulge."
It is a hard-hitting truth. Misusing my body is a lack of gratefulness and appreciation for my body itself and for Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. The following verse radically changed my perspective on the value of my body. The verse is a parallel to 1 Cor. 13:4-8 rewritten to fit the health & wellness approach. With Love, Ruth
The most excellent way to do anything IS LOVE
I promise to treat my body with love.
I will be patient and kind towards it.
I will not envy the body of another.
I will not be boastful when the weight falls.
I will not be proud when others praise me.
I will not be rude when others ask, "How's it going?"
I will not be self-seeking as I seek to please my God.
I will not be easily angered when my mind says "yes" and my body says "no"
I will keep no record of wrongs as I forgive myself when I blow it.
I will not delight in evil by hiding secret delights,
but I'll rejoice with the truth that I ate what was best.
Always protecting - my positive attitude
Always trusting - in the good
Always hoping - for the best
Always persevering - when it's tough
LOVE will never fail me
I will LOVE the BODY that GOD has entrusted to me.
I will take care of the body that God has given me.
My BODY is fascinating and I LOVE IT!
